mother's day

for mom: a poem

ma, oh ma! come see what i saw!
it’s pages and pages of mother’s day law!
“for every son, who hath come from thee,
shall write a poem. three stanzas there’ll be.”

what a request! it’s such a demand!
a poem, with words? i’ve hardly two hands!

yet, no trouble it was, to lay down these words.
i’ve gotten some prose, some rhymes, and birds.
the last are stuck in a motionless state,
“flying” around. it’s no luck, just fate.

“inside this poem, the content will be:
you’ll think of something. just wait, you’ll see.”
it was right! i had! the message was clear!
i’ll write her some love, then give her a beer!

no beer? then wine! from a box, no less.
maybe just tea. i doubt she’ll contest.

the purpose! of course! i nearly forgot.
i’ve written this poem, but said this i’ve not:

surely a mother, as great as you are
knows of her marvelousness! (just trust me, y’ar)
but now for the case that you’ve forgotten just how:
you’re the best there is! so please take a bow!
